I was hesitant when I began this class because I wasn’t sure of the amount of work I would have to do. This class has given me more insight on how to handle situations when I am in the supervisor position. I knew that I had the ability to be a manager or supervisor due to my work ethic and rapport with other staff and families. I learned about the different types of leaders. I also learned how different circumstances help label children. Another important fact I learned was how communication and collaboration can enhance a community of practice. I liked the idea of having a community of practice for an organization that focuses on shared goals for the people/families/children they are helping.
My long term goal is to become an Owner/Director for my own early childhood program. I want to continue to help and encourage children and families to become self-sufficient. My Mom, my sister, and I are going to open an early childhood program where children can feel confident in themselves and their culture.
I want to wish all of my fellow classmates the best at everything they wish to do on their journey to greatness. I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback that was given on all discussions. I am glad that I was able to interact with you. I also want to thank our instructor. She was patient and graded all assignment fairly while given positive feedback. Thanks for taking the time to teach this class.

International Organizations

I have always been interested in the UNICEF foundation. This organization helps children in 190 countries. UNICEF works to “save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence” (www.unicef.org/). This organization promotes policies to protect children. As we all know, children need protection from the many dangers that can occur in their lives that they may not have control over. “Every child has the right to survive and thrive” (www.unicef.org/). Children are vulnerable and need laws and policies that can protect them from harm. I think that this organization is very important and the work they do is as important. Children are put into situations that are not in their control while suffering. They also want to ensure that all girls meet their potential, all children have the opportunity to learn, social inclusion for children, help children in emergencies, and improving innovations and solutions (www.unicef.org/). Currently they have many job opportunities. I could see myself being a consultant and an emergency specialist. I chose these two jobs because I am good at planning and humanitarian work. I can help lead to improvement. I can also see myself as a program assistant developing and implementing activities while gathering resources.

The International Step by Step Association first caught my eye because they are supported by UNICEF. “Our vision is a society where families, communities and professionals work together to empower each child to reach their unique potential and embrace values of social justice and equity” (http://www.issa.nl/index.html). This vision statement aligns some what with my Capstone Project in the aspect of everyone working together for the better of the child and equity. They advocate for the children who are most vulnerable. “As a leading early childhood network and learning community, we promote quality, equitable and integrated services for children, families and practitioners” (http://www.issa.nl/index.html). I didn’t see any job vacancies, but I do have qualities that could benefit this organization. I want to support the child and the family. I am a good communicator and collaborator as well. I am known in the community which can offer resources for the families.

The Save the Children organization speaks volumes to me because of their name. “In the U.S. and around the world, Save the Children does whatever it takes — every day and in times of crisis — to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm” (www.savethechildren.org). This organization is one of the firsts to respond when children are involved in a crisis. The child’s needs are met first. They help save the children in the United States and in 120 countries. Education and protection programs are available to help the children and change their lives. 155 million children were helped last year and they will continue to make this number bigger until all children are saved. They also educate policy holders to help improve the well-being of all children.
I did not see any available job openings, but I would want to help by advocating for the children. I can communicate and collaborate with others who want to help and families who may be looking for help.

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

 World Forum Foundation

This foundation is about quality services for all children globally. “The mission of the World Forum Foundation is to promote an on-going global exchange of ideas on the delivery of quality services for young children in diverse settings” (https://worldforumfoundation.org).  The words Children, Change, Relationships, Spirit, and Differences and examples of what their values are about. They host three in person gatherings: one for children advocates, one for early education professionals, and one for advocates and practitioners. There are two groups who carry out the activities for the foundation: working groups and global leaders of young children.

I think that I would want to be a part of the global leaders of young children because I am an emerging leader who wants more training so that I could impact policy. This course has given me many of the new characteristics I believe to be promising for a leader.

Association for Early Learning Leaders

This is a non-profit organization that promotes leadership development to enhance programs. “Early Learning Leader’s goal is to strengthen the knowledge, skills and abilities of early care directors, owners, emerging leaders and other early learning professionals to ensure quality child care programs for young children” (https://www.earlylearningleaders.org).  They achieve this by promoting networking and collaboration, Providing trainings for professional development, providing access to resources, and promoting improvements for programs. This organization interests me because it is about making the ones in charge better at their job.

I would like to sit on the Board of Directors. I was a teacher in early childhood. I supervised my assistant and was in charge of the team teacher meetings. I also have a passion for children and early learning.

National Education Association

This is a professional employee organization that is committed to advancing the cause public education. This organization works with preschool to graduate programs at universities. “Our mission is to advocate for education professionals and to unite our members and the nation to fulfill the promise of public education to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world” (http://www.nea.org).  This organization shows an interest in a part of my capstone on how children should get a great education regardless of how they live. “NEA also believes every student in America, regardless of family income or place of residence, deserves a quality education” (http://www.nea.org).

This is an organization I would want to be the President or Vice President of. I have the qualities of leadership and management under my belt. I have a good rapport with parents and children. I am good at research and can delegate when needed. I have the best interest of the children and their families in mind when it comes to education.

Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

Teach for All
This organization helps leaders and teachers to expand educational opportunities for all children preparing them for the future throughout the world.
I would enjoy helping and supporting the teachers. I possess many of the skills that I need to complete this role. I have leadership skills and communication skills.

Save The Children
This organization wants to help children get a better start with health. Children are dying before they can get to the age where they can begin school. This organization wants these children to live to go to school. They want them to have a future. This brought tears to my eyes because young children cannot see about themselves, adults must tend to them.

International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN)
It fuels my anger to see a child be a victim of child abuse and neglect. This is the most important reason I was drawn to this organization. This organization works to prevent this child abuse and neglect. It is a nonprofit organization that want to increase awareness while promoting the rights of children.
I would want to volunteer with this organization. I have the skills of communication where I could be a speaker about the issue. I would feel comfortable doing this.
